Gravity Separation Techniques
Gravity separation methods are effective for separating gold from lighter materials. Techniques such as sluicing, using a shaking table, or employing spiral concentrators leverage the differences in density to isolate gold. Sluice boxes, for example, are used in rivers, allowing water flow to wash over the contained materials, capturing heavy gold particles in the riffles. Spiral and vortex concentrators work similarly, creating a swirling motion that sorts materials by weight. These methods are efficient and eco-friendly, suitable for small-scale mining operations.
