1. Preliminary Examination (Prelims)
The Prelims stage consists of two papers, both of which are objective type (multiple choice questions). The papers are conducted on the same day.

Syllabus: Comprehension, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General mental ability, Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level).
2. Main Examination (Mains)
The Mains stage consists of nine papers, out of which two are qualifying in nature and seven are counted for merit. The papers are descriptive in nature.
Qualifying Papers:
Paper A: Indian Language (300 marks)
Any one of the languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Candidates are required to write essays on multiple topics.
Paper II: General Studies I (250 marks)
Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society.
Paper III: General Studies II (250 marks)
Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations.
Paper IV: General Studies III (250 marks)

3. Personality Test (Interview)
The final stage is the Personality Test or Interview, which carries 275 marks. Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change: General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change.
