Sony Boosts Sales Outlook with Strong Performances in Music and Games Divisions
Sony has increased its sales outlook primarily due to strong performances in its music and games divisions. Here are the key factors contributing to this boost:
Games Division Impact
Strong Sales of PS5 Games and Network Services:
Sales from game and network services increased by ¥117.4 billion Yen, resulting in an operating income of ¥138.8 billion Yen for Q2 of FY 2024. This growth was driven by higher revenue from PlayStation Plus and sales of third-party games and add-ons.
Sony plans to release major single-player game titles every year starting from April 1, 2025. Notable upcoming releases include "Death Stranding 2" and "Ghost of Yotei," which are expected to boost first-party game sales.
The music division's revenue rose by 16% to 358.2 billion yen last quarter, driven by hit records from artists like SZA, Miley Cyrus, and Harry Styles.
Higher revenue from streaming services like Spotify and increased income from merchandising and live events also contributed to the growth.
The company raised its profit forecast for the game sector to 355 billion yen from 320 billion yen, leading to a slight upward revision of the group's annual revenue forecast to 12.71 trillion yen.
These factors collectively led to Sony increasing its sales outlook, particularly due to the robust performance in its music and games divisions.
